Innovation should be in the hands of our universities. They have literally BILLIONS in their endowments. They can play a huge role in spurring innovation by investing in startup companies founded by their students. In exchange, they can get an equity stake in the company. Look at Google, yahoo, etc that were started at Stanford. There is plenty of capital out there for innovation.
