Congrats on new board, Dave! Good idea.

Speaking of dieting...just got back from Indian Restaurant -lamb in orange sauce, basmanti, skewered veggies, wine, mango-something dessert, coffee...ummmmmmmmm...

Seems there's no end to the ways one can lose 20 pounds or so these days. Atkins works good. Low carbs, etc..

I believe the key is a lifestyle change. Nothing drastic, but a real commitment to change what you eat, and maybe do a little extra in the workout area.

I have a high metabolism. I'm lucky. I have to work at it if I want to gain weight. Could eat cake and grease all day long for months with no gain. Just the body type I guess. Never been on a diet to lose weight, though have tried to gain. I'm 6' and have weighed 170-180 long as I can remember.
Dieting has got to be real tough.

If I were your personal manager here's what you'd be doing...

I weight lifted for 15+ years up to about 3 years ago. I WAS real 'cut' (6-pack and all) - kinda deflated these days.

I would recommend you join a club - free-weights only - no barbells - just dumbells. Start out real easy. The first day promise yurself to only go in, smell the sweat, and go home. I'm serious. Next time same thing except look at the machines and go home.

The point is, you don't want to discourage yourself. By doing it this way you'll find yourself doing a little more each time before you go home. Don't even consider a workout schedule for a month. No pressure. This is my 'crab-like' approach - don't meet things head-on, approach them sideways. like a crab.

Guarantee you'll really get into it sooner than you think.
Weight lifting/training, once you get up to speed a little - using the proper form above all else - will turn your muscles into fat-burning engines - even when you're not lifting.
Your body will reshape itself if you just do moderate training on arms, back, legs, shoulders. You'll be amazed at the end of 4 months!

Because you burn calories more efficiently, you can handle MORE carbs (if you want) which means you only need to moderately adjust your diet. I use to increase my protein intake with soy drinks and meats. Be flexible - think long-term. Don't be the type who gets freaked if they eat cake, drink pop/beer, etc, or miss a couple workouts. If you take a week off - fine - just get back to the gym. In fact it's good to do that once in a while.

Anyway, it worked for me and I started when I was 43.
I was a veritable chick-magnet!
NEVER GIVE UP! LOL
