I am only repeating what you told us.
You said you were contacted by someone claiming to be the landlord.
He was trying to find out information about his tenants.
Given the state of the company, the office, the administrative dissolution of the company by the State of Florida, the inability of the delivery man to find anyone in the office, it is completely reasonable to suggest that the management may have just walked away.
It is also much more likely that the person who contacted you was exactly what he claimed to be, given the same circumstances.
Perhaps it is your claim that he was a 'scaremonger' that is unsubstantiated.
