We do know certain things for sure.
He said: "The time is now," but nothing happened, which means that:
1.) The time was now and he didn't know how to execute.
2.) The time was not now and he couldn't tell that it was not.
3.) He lied.
We also know that he wanted us to turn Alexa into our home page and go to ReelTime from there so that we could fake the results of traffic to the website. Which means, he is:
1.) Not completely honest.
2.) Unable to see that a couple of hundred of us wouldn't be able to make a real dent in the Alexa numbers.
3.) Not aware enough to see that any smart person would see through that.
We also know that in sep of '06, he lowered the authorized shares from 500mm to 150mm, effectively destroying the ability of the company to raise funds if needed. A year later he asked the shareholders to vote for an increase to 200mm, obviously a result of his having made a mistake and realising it. The fact remains that a smart CEO would have lowered the AS to 300MM, and sold about 100MM inthe open market for about 15 cents a share, which would have given the company the resources to move forward.
All of these well known factors, without knowing the internal details such as is know by those who have worked there, are enough to come to the conclusion that he did a poor job.
The other important factor in determining that he executed poorly is the incredible number of PR that amounted to nothing. Overall, he may be a great guy, but as a CEO, he left a lot to be desired. I just hope that the same is not true when it comes to technical matters. I hope that he is able to take a desk near Todd and the other techs, and be able to contribute in like manner. This company needs at least a half dozen good technical personnel to really move forwards.
