The cost to charge a phone is minimal. You gave me an idea this AM. Some sort of charger on your bicycle with a cell phone holder.

The other things in your house are costing you huge compared to charging your cell phone. Most people think of cost when they forget to turn off a light. But think of the things running 24x7. Clock radios, computer on idle, printer left turned on, multiple TV sets plugged in (staying in warm mode so for instant on), 300W of heat lamps for the bearded dragon, microwave oven clock, heater for the fish tank. You get the idea.

The amount of current drawn from the mains in order to charge a cell phone is literally only milliamps, or to put it another way, probably a watt or two. It’s probably the least power hungry appliance in the home. The cost would definitely be much less than one cent.

You wondered if it might cost ten cents. That’s probably the amount it might cost to run a clothes drier for an hour or two, and just think how much power they use.

I would say a few pennies considering that it doesn’t take much electricity to re-charge a phone.
