Sure it can happen. It all depends on precious metals prices. If the price of silver goes down much more from here and stays there, look for many mines to shut down and/or go bankrupt. Silver needs to be roughly around $10 oz to make mining profitable. Anything under that and it spells trouble for the viability for many miners.
