I really don't care about the econ numbers. I have assumed 4.5% drop in GDP in the 4th quarter in 4.5% drop in the 1st quarter. With that in mind, what can possibly surprise me?

I go by my models and charts. The rest is just noise.

We're prob rallying a)because shorts are covering to cash in their 2008 profits and b)the stops are being taken out.Anyone who bot QID in the $30s or $40s last year is exiting FAST as it has dropped +50% from the Nov high.

OK, mad, whatever. My customers are saying otherwise. One reported today (they have 1,400 stores) and had a 2% drop in comp store sales and a loss. I've got another several chains that are down as well. Most are lucky to hold their own.

BBY is not the retail market. BBY is men going and buying big screens, IPOD's, Wii's, and Guitar Hero. Meanwhile, Macy's can't give away their stuff.

You probably don't realize when a Walmart closes a store and opens a supercenter twice the size down the street it's counted as a comp store, not a new location. I'll bet half of Walmart's comp sales over the years were done that way.

My 28-year experience in dealing with the retail industry apparently has no sway over your deep industry knowledge.

I'm sorry, but I sometimes get fatigued from dealing with the fickle people who turn on people on these threads. I have shared with many over the years in order to give back what I have in turn received from others. However, there may come a time when I may just have to pick and choose who I am going to respond to instead of being civil and considerate to all, as reciprocation is necessary for online relationships.
