Concern over availability,
is most likely what you smell. Dell already has workstations using this chip on there site and quote about 4 weeks delivery time... which is not too bad.
There is also the fact that the 64b performance is likely fairly poor compared to 32b. The fact that this has not been put up in big blazing signs yet is no big deal. I think the 32b performance is what is going to (or more likely not going to) sell the thing.

Intel is dragging the whole industry through this big transition to DDR2 and PCI-express with lots of words indicating it is the best thing since (well, pick your favorite cliche'). So far, the reviews indicate it is not better, and perhaps even a little worse than good old DDR and AGP.
