The only solution for GM is a pre-packaged bankruptcy with DIP financing from the US. We may need to see additional DIP money to suppliers as well as a result of a domino effect from GM and Chrysler failing. However, the restructing from bankruptcy should allow the industry to put many of the legacy issues behind them and allow laser focus on the task at hand.

They still need to shoot everyone and anyone who was involved with the Aztec program as part of the restructuring.

The Hubris at GM is unreal.

As part of getting the US competitive with global competitors, we should probably raise the fuel tax to incentivize efficient vehicles. Asia and Europe already do this, and it would bring down platform costs and reduce niche production. It would also make electric vehicles more cost effective, which in turn would lower the use of foreign oil and strengthen the USD. This would only occur if the battery technology is home grown, of course.
