Things are quiet as a tomb?
She said to herself, looking around the deserted room. I wonder what is going on. She put her purse down on the counter and with trepidation in her heart moved cautiously into the room. Cup rings on the coffee table right next to the sandstone coasters. An empty pizza box on the breakfast bar and a stack of paper plates with the stale remnants of pizza crusts beside it. All appeared to be normal. Then she heard it..the sound of heavy animal breathing...the pounding of huge paws on the hardwood floor...No!! she screamed silently..as the animal rounded the corner from the hall and into the family room. "Stay!' she screamed! 'Stay! Stop! Heel!! Heel!!" Too late she realized her error, she should have leaped on top of the breakfast bar. The black and white body of the animal slammed into her...and she became airborne. Her spirit smartly left her body and observed it as it executed a ludicrously high kick as if she were trying out for a dance troupe, followed by a what appeared to be an attempt at a triple lutz. Sadly the gymnastics were followed quickly by the inevitable pull of gravity and she was on the floor.
The psychotic dog who had so happily witnessed her award winning attempts to defy gravity and convention now added his own dance steps directly to her prone body. Drawing air into her bruised lungs she screamed and then, drawing on her battery of overheard epithets from her brother in the Navy, she turned the air blue with questions concerning the parentage of the border collie who was now regarding her with what she thought was amusement.
Now, having consumed a couple of pain pills and having them take effect she will lurch back to bed.
