I have no idea how Dateline will present it - balanced or sensationalized. I would hope they would investigate and provide some evidence of widespread "naked shorting" if there is any. I would be eager to see the show and hope they air it.

A few points...

If that's the case....don't you know when Dateline does the story it will be embellished (misrepresented) even more!

--Typically Dateline stories (unless they're of cosmic importance) don't run for more than twenty minutes. I think it'd be very difficult even to scratch the surface of this in so little time.

--Dateline and other TV "news" shows often do a good deal of work on stories they never air. Back in 1999, Jeff Mitchell and I spent quite a lot of time talking (and in Jeff's case, meeting) with people from 20-20. They'd even started filming interviews with SEC people when the show was suddenly canned because one of the higher-ups decided it wasn't of sufficient interest to a general audience. Later, we also had some discussions with Dateline, but they didn't go very far.

--The Dateline story has been postponed till August. My guess is that it won't appear at all.

--What the GetShorty bunch don't realize is that real journalists (as distinguished from the toutish hacks from FinancialWire) always check out both sides of a story. I'll bet they've "discovered" that Investrend is in fact a company engaged in stock promotion. And I'll bet the SEC has told 'em that the GetShorty people are clueless when it comes to actual facts.

I suspect that they decided to drop the story, but won't make any kind of "announcement" because they know that if they do they'll be inundated with hysterical emails and phone calls from the GetShorties.
