That's exactly what cc is doing. Cutting the FAT outside of BK.

I work for for a major retailer and have some insight of what's going on in the retail world. cc was just a victim of a cash crunch. The TOTAL debt is not much more than $200 mil and the company has a GROSS PROFIT of over $2 bil and has revenues over $10 bil. The Canadian operations are in pretty good shape. They are immediately closing 155 less than profitable U.S. stores from now till XMAS to free up some cash since the credit markets are frozen for most businesses. The share structure is in good share with about 150 mil o/s.

It's classic to think BK for all retailers, however, in this case it appears they are currently restructuring outside of BK. I just picked up additional shares this morning. This is one of those stocks that I can see $4+ in the near Future. Of course, there is always that Buyout lurking in the back ground. It's worth the risk IMO.
