I did not know that. Do you mean that each company would continue to have the rights to use methods and technologies patented by the competitor up to 1/1/2011, forever, even when the cross licence agreement terminates? Thanks for the clarification.

This a very good point. It is virtually certain that Intel will have massive R&D in 2011 that will generate many patentable inventions in both processor design and silicon processing.

What kind of R&D will AMD have in 2011? Who knows. AMD will not have any silicon processing inventions because it will exist as a fabless design house. AMD may also have shrunk again so that it does not have the financial resources for much design R&D.
