Without bid support, there would be no bid, and at that point I doubt anyone would be slapping the ask.

So I should use the logic of overpaying for a stock just so I can hope to induce others to do the same on said stock so it does not get shaken down. If I am long, I want it to shake back down and add. If I am momo I am out anyway. If they are diluting, then hitting the ask is just giving them money. Could someone else explain this to me cause clearly I am not even bright enough to understand how over paying makes me money.
