petrsny - indeed it's good to hear that re-iterated. Wasn't that what Kevin mCGrath(?) said at that Stanford presentation a few months ago? Re-stating it again now could be significant. Let's hope someone's listening... who matters.

petrsny,

That gives AMD a huge advantage in all aspects going forward. Very promising short and mid-term future for AMD.

Yes, it looks very good for AMD. On notebook front, as well as server.

I don't know where I came across the info (may have been Sun-AMD webcast) or the chat transcript (that Keith linked earlier) Sun representative mentioned 4 way blades. Low power Opterons is most what can make that possible - or something like a low voltage Dothan - but for now it is only a 1-way chip.

Speaking of Sun, and they addressed it (I believe the Fowler guy), they seem to have a serious problem in their time to market. IBM beat them on both 2way server and workstation, HP beat them in 2-way (or was it a tie?) and 4-way, they said their blades will be out next year. So both IBM and HP will beat them again.

There have been only a very vague rumors about 4-way server from IBM, while Sun has been promissing it for 6 months. I would not be surprised if IBM beat Sun here again.

The only Opteron that Sun is selling is a Newisys based box. They did not deliver anything on their own.
