capt - I also think the Government should attack the housing problem. This also needs to be done in the next few days because the government couldn't see it coming until it was over. The government could buy all of the excess inventory of homes for sale and turn them all over to HUD. HUD could rent them to those with low or no income for $1.00 per month. The $1.00 would maintain the dignity of the renters because they would realize they were not getting something for nothing. Of course this would mean that HUD would need to expand at least 10 times its current size but that is alright because there are a lot of empty office buildings coming on the market that they could buy. Of course there will also be a need to provide utility payment assistance. The cost of heating and cooling some of these big homes would be a huge burden on a non earning non worker. Yes there are many things our government to get busy and do. They all need to be done this weekend at the latest. The poor fools had no idea until two weeks ago that there was even a problem with the banks. It would be a thrilling experience for me to see the government do one proactive, preemptive thing before I die. They are always reactive and usually too late with too much.
