Thanks to Doug C for the repost of EEL SPP's sober reflection on recent developments with Petrobrás in Brazil and their possible implications for us in STP's EEZ.

Have seen nothing further, since my Sept. 8 post, on expected STP parliament action on pre-EEZ auction legislation. But news should come soon and I have me ears to the ground. The new 3-party govt has a majority in the legislature so the 3 bills should be approved without problem.

While the content of the bills hasn't leaked out, both PM Branco's MLSTP and Trovoada's opposition ADI opposed Pres Menezes' attempts late last year to alter legislation to allow direct negotiations with select oil operators in special circumstances - preferentially with Petrobrás, it appeared.

Has anything changed since then? I don't know. But will let the board know as soon as I do.

Bests,
HP

Thanks for the post doug c.........a few more dots to tie into the ERHE story, but all plausible....one would think that with EEL's and ERHE's position in the EEZ, interested parties in the EEZ would begin to position themselves now for 2009.

Any idea how you evaluate if an area has "below the salt zone" oil deposits such as those found off Brazil? Can you use seismic or do you have to drill to find evidence of same?

Is there any chance some tests have been run in the JDZ that would indicate these type deposits occur or are our estimates just for the rock layer zones? Any way these type of deposits could account for some of the major numbers that some have thrown around regarding our assets?

Won't plan on any of these super zones to be in our blocks but sure would be nice if something out of the blue came our way in regards to them or to the EEZ.

GoG News: Brazil's Petrobrás to study 11 Angolan "pre-salt" areas next year - Lusa agency.

It cites Petrobrás' director Int'l Dept, Samir Awad, saying the Angolan zone "geologically similar" to Brazil's Santos Basin where company recently announced massive oil finds.

P.S. First such pre-salt ops I've seen mentioned in GoG.

Check out excellent Financial Times piece on Brazilian pre-salt finds posted on EEL board by SPP119 and reposted here last week by Doug C.
