originunknown: what these type of critics fail to realize is that strategy games are to be adapted by the individual player. I remember the struggle that I had with Civ3, at first, having never played Civ1 and Civ2. But, because I was an "outsider," many things clicked and I played the game as it was NOT meant to be played. I was the first publicly posted player to beat Civ3 at deity level.

My imagination has already taken me to goals of playing Spore radically differently. It's like the account of Alexander and The Gordian Knot. The pioneers make their own rules. Let the critics design and distribute the game that they drool for.
