Joe, starting with slide 6 in the WOW64 slide show - a very timely posting by petrsny, thanks! - we see that 32-bit DLLs do work on 64-bit Windows. Now we just have to establish whether printer 'drivers' are implemented as DLLs, as would make sense.
Edit: I see the presentation uses the term 'kernel driver' to distinguish from DLL drivers. Kernel drivers are what I called 'true drivers' which have to be run in ring 0 (on x86) and must be compiled 64-bit for 64-bit Windows.
