Are solar panels on large vehicles viable ? TT Heres a thought I read somewhere in the solar panel world that the most you could expect to get from a roof mounted solar panel on a car is about 5Kwh/day ..enough to power the air conditioning If this is the case then a vehicle the size of a bus or large van ought to be able to generate at least 25 Kwh/day from solar energy on the roof The ITM electrolyzer at 80% efficiency can make about 25gms of H2 per Kwh so for 25 kwhr/day you would get about 625 gms of hydrogen or the mileage equivalent of 1.7 gals of diesel On a large van or bus doing say 100 mls per day at 25mpg this is a saving of almost 50% of the fuel cost With any surplus H2 stored inside a 75 bar or indeally a 350 bar storage tank for use at a more appropriate later time mmmmmm......
