I have a private company and my experience is...

Private companies exist BECAUSE they make their owners money.

Public companies sometimes seem to exist (and trade stock), because they NEED money.

I'm sure this sounds simplistic but I can't think of any privately held company not in bankruptcy that isn't making money and for a company with 170 employess on the books they better be making a goodly amount. IMHO.

Privately held companies are typically not financed.
There's rarely a need as the ones that survive are often making money from the get-go.
