Chrisau.....................................auto racing.

NASCAR vehicles are sturdier and survive minor encounters better than F-1 vehicles.

Exceptions such as 11 car pileups you describe are not what I would call "Minor Incidents".

In F-1 if you so much as touch another car you are out of the race so you are racing the track only. It is; "How fast can I get around this track barring encounters with others?"

In NASCAR they draft up, push, shove, slide, tap and bang their way about the track at speeds approaching 200 mph+ and corners in excess of 160 mph.

The NASCAR vehicles are BODIED and some of those bodies (The Late and Great Dale Earnhardt) are specially re-inforced, at a weight debit, to enhance their driver's ability and durability in the tap, bang, wham of NASCAR.

The Pit Crew, and excellent timing, a little chance taking on tires and an accurate assesment of fuel requirements...is an all important factor in winning. Green light pit stops or the lack of them, accomplished in less than 17 seconds, are an absolute marvel to behold. F-1 has the same phenomena.

Two reasonably different sports with major emphasis changes.
Another major difference is rpm's...F-1 engines have a narrow power band and depend on 6 and higher gearboxes to keep the engine rpm/power compatible with speed(s). A large amount of shifting changes occur...not NASCAR...good old 3 speeds and 4 speeds.

Contact is the criteria...

I just prefer NASCAR over F-1...more excitement that you can see and hear.
