It's the ONLY hope they have left IMO in the short to medium term. But then again, the tech may be "nothing special" but I haven't seen any other company working on anything like uWink has -- have you? There's the Microsoft surface but it's far too expensive.

Sometimes "cheesy 16bit 2nd gen graphics" is all a company desires, if even that. Have you noticed the software at your ATM, at your airport kiosk, etc? It's pretty basic. Self-service ordering doesn't have to have 3D images popping out. And actually from my own experience I found the graphics to be pretty slick on the ordering menu. I think 99% of it is actual photographs. It's kind of impossible to beat photoimages. Certainly not "16bit 2nd generation graphis" lol:

<~~~~the only thing that looks "cheesy" to me there is the picture of actual cheese on the picture of an actual burger. :)

You said it and you are right.
Though Rawnoc tried hard to knock me (personally) for my observations posted here a few weeks back, what you're alluding to is what I found on my visit to the Hollywood location.

Compared to other restaurants there, UWink feels under funded, drab, neglected, a little forlorn, under serviced. As I mentioned, there was a labor problem the waiter disclosed when a second drink failed to show: the bar tender had just walked off the job. The place was not busy. There was little demand for bar activity. There must be some pretty lousy management for this to happen mid shift.

I agree that the games were cheesy (Chuck E, please forgive the reference) and certainly not sophistocated. They definitely looked old, tired, childish, basic. Definitely not up to speed.

Monitor looks old fashioned, clunky, sits in the middle of the table distracting from interaction. Should be able to moved by customers who are done with it.

Terminal is smeary with finger grease, unappetizing and perhaps unsanitary, in any event not particularly inviting. A little care could help this.

Restroom was neglected, during a non busy time. It should be clean and attended to, not wet under urinal. May be forgiven if place is pumping - it wasn't.

Staff seemed dispirited, sharing negative info with customers.

And on and on.

Almost feels like they got it up and running with their last gasp. And now it fends for itself, sink or swim.

Needs a bit of a life preserver.

In my humble O.

Hope for a turnaround or buyout or something. Else it's over and out.
Can't imagine what the northern Cal operation's gonna be like.
