There were a couple posts earlier. i'm a busy guy and not going to look through 44,000 posts to find those specific posts, but the question was

"Has this ever happened before"

In reference to the dividend.

The answer is yes and the answer is no.

OK, PR was useless.

So, yes, this has happened before. Pinkies have spun off stock that appeared to be worth dollars, but shortly after the spinoffs, they were worth pennies, making them worthless as far as the benefits of the spinoffs were concerned.

And no, there have also been pinkies that talked about divies worth lotsa dollars, but they never got around to doing them.

Has there ever been a successful one? I can't recall any.
