#115832 RE: EZ2 #115829

Dear Friends,
For too long, our energy policy has been anything but forward-looking. A lack of leadership to enact a comprehensive energy policy has left Americans with $4/gallon gasoline.

Western Wisconsin families are feeling a lot of pain at the pump right now, and the Democratic Congress is working hard to try and make up for the failed policies of the past. We are in an energy crisis, and we must take a good look at all of our domestic options to help bring some relief to families.

I recognize the impulse is to focus only on the short term, but I also believe that we cannot squander this opportunity to make the investments that will prevent a situation like this in the future. That’s why I’m calling for a comprehensive energy strategy that recognizes the market forces at play. We must:

Invest in the development of renewable technology
Increase domestic supply by drilling in NPR-Alaska and requiring oil companies to explore the land they hold leases for but have yet to develop
Reduce demand through conservation
Release a small amount of oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve (SPR) to help reduce the record gas prices
Return to a strong dollar policy to reduce inflation and bring oil prices down
For a more in depth look at my energy plan and other policies, please visit my website at www.house.gov/kind. I also look forward to discussing these issues and sharing my work in Congress with the people of Trempealeau County and La Crosse County at listening sessions next Monday, July 28th. Please feel free to contact me for more information, and I hope to see you at next week’s events!

Congressman Ron Kind
