Yep. Most tropical systems in the Atlantic originate from CV waves.
I guess it shouldn't be a big surprise they are active early this year since probably one of the warmest SST areas in the climatolgically-speaking tropical genesis Atlantic is off the west coast of Africa.
This enhances the ability for these systems to form earlier on as Bertha proved (a record breaker) and if these higher than normal W Africa SSTs (sea surface temps) and TCHPs (tropical cyclone heat potential) #s stay high we will IMO likely continue to see CV waves develop more vigorously than in the past couple years. But what they do when they get across the Atlantic remains to be seen. TCHP #s in the GOM and Caribb are not all that much above normal.
All IMO.
