One thing he does need though is a few ideas about what you like.

colors?
Rockers (not chairs lol)?

Knowing your style and personailty helps him a lot with the creativity aspect.

For example when he did my header I told him I wanted these elements:

Gothic + Wallstreet + Money (and he added the readhead on his own).
