aixman, the customer that Sun sells to does not want IDE. Now, IDE has come a long way, but SCSI is the way to go if you want a RAID system with 6 or 8 disks striped. Also, ultra IDE cabling is not very reliable. Serial ATA shows promise with the SATA II standard under development now, it could become the unifying replacement for IDE and SCSI.
Sun simply does not compete for the small business who wants a PC server with two IDE drives mirrored. That is the Dell market, and HP sells into it also.
