If you pay attention to the numbers reported to the DOT rather than scoffing at them, you might find it significant when applying that to the merger.

What you find is that they have a lot of employees, a lot of miles and yet the number of owned trucks was small at the beginning of the year and even smaller at the end of the year.

This shows that the company is heavy into leasing virtually all the tractors and trailers. If the trend continued, then virtually all equipment is leased. Leased equipment will not show up as an asset on the balance sheet. Nor will it help a book value valuation.
