NANAIMO, B.C. - Rail freight service on Vancouver Island will be down for several days after thieves stole copper cables that act as the power supply for the only two freight locomotives on the island.
The theft occurred sometime Sunday or early Monday. A mechanic discovered the theft about 6 a.m. Monday.
Don McGregor, SVI general manager, said freight service will likely be affected for up to three days, if not longer, while they work to either repair or replace the locomotives.
