It will beat the GTX280 in virtually everything seeing all the 4870 Crossfire benchmarks, ATI/AMD is finally back in the high-performance gpu game. Sure it bought ATI for the long-term platform benefits but medium/high-end gpus earn the day to day profit or should do ;-). The 4850 is good but the 4870 is a real home run at its starting price of $299 and will squeeze all of Nvidia's non GTX cards very hard from above.
