The 4 way HP is very competitive vs. comparable Xeon (faster and cheaper) and it is most likely also more profitable for HP (if they sell enough of them). The 585 seems to beat the 580 model in just about every performance category (I/O, memory supported, #of DIMMs), but 580 has some edge in hot-plug capability and redundancy.
