7 DAYS LEFT!! -- XP64 (non beta) Release Date Contest & Entries as of 4/23/04, 14:00 PDT --

If I can get 4 people to pledge $20, as well as my own $20, the winner will get a free Windows XP PRO upgrade to the 64-bit version, limited to a max of $100. Note that this will be the cheapest method, such as download, if getting a CD is more expensive. Anyone feeling generous? I'll also try to contact Microsoft, but don't expect any success. If more than 4 pledge, we'll split it equally. PM me.

This is a contest to predict the launch date of Windows XP for 64-bit Extended Systems, and also to predict the costs (if any) to upgrade for Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional owners.

Cutoff date will be 5/1/04 at 03:00 EDT, a week away. But I'm dropping the penalty idea since the Japanese site didn't really add much info, but will recognize the best guess prior to today as well as the best overall guess until the cutoff date. The prize, if offered, will be for the closest date, before or after today.

The reason for short cutoff is so additional news doesn't make the result moot, and I want the contest to reflect expectations well before the release.

To enter, make sure your first line includes "XP64" and "contest" or, better yet, use the template at the end and reply to this post. For the upgrade cost, use 0 for free upgrades, n/a if you think it won't be offered. If you modify an existing "date of release" entry, the entry date will be changed.

Here are the entries so far, followed by the template.
Gave up on fixed font, it keeps double spacing on SI, but this should render readably on either SI or IHub.

Maybe everyone thinks it will be free to download? I'm
guessing $0 for Pro, but that Home will require a CD. We could also try and guess the cost of the full version with CD, or upgrade retail version etc., but there are too many combinations.
