OT - WiMax related:

Eric:

Please correct me if my understanding of Wi-Max is inaccurate (I've pieced my viewpoint together form bits of data collected from industry press releases, not from an inside technical basis). But as I understand Wi-Max, we have the ability to send and receive data (at relatively high rates and relatively long distances) between two fixed points. The "fixed" is required because of antenna size and power requirements. A "mobile" Wi-Max application is not the "mobile" that we know and love (ie, a cell phone), but rather a portable receiving station (large antenna and all!). I do not get the impression that we will see Wi-Max built into laptops or phones, but rather Wi-Max will feed a station that distributes the signal (via Wi-Fi) to the smaller devices, w/in a smaller (100 Ft radius) range.

Hi Eric,

Sorry to hear that you even entertain the suggestions of censors and people who would dictate with whom or what you should discuss, given their druthers.

As for your roadmap for wimax, let's just say it is showing a significant divergence from the Chinese and Korean roadmaps; not that these country/groups have anything to gain from allying against a certain (alleged) anti-competitive company. Ask Siemens or Intel if you want an objective viewpoint... :^>

I'm sure in the end, every technology that survives will end up being complementary. Too bad wCDMA won't be one of them....

Cheers & Good Weekend All! Rob
