Not true. I've been writing cash secured Puts in multiple IRA accounts for years. I can also do spreads and the margin requirement is only the difference between the 2 strike prices. Fidelity and Schwab both allow the Puts. Fidelity allows the spreads.

If you have sufficient cash in your IRA account to cover the puts when exercised you are allowed by most brokers to write the puts in an IRA. Will
