Chipguy - Of course you've got to admire the raw tenacity of people
who can stomach 13 straight quarters of losses without
losing faith. Or breaking out the kool-aid plus. :-P

...and I guess your the prophet that has toiled here all that time to bring the droids to the righteous path. I got to admire your tenacity.

chipguy,

Some AMD fans demonstrate the strongest blind faith and misguided devotion possible short of strapping on explosive belts.

How ironic for you to speak of blind faith ...

Of course you've got to admire the raw tenacity of people
who can stomach 13 straight quarters of losses without
losing faith. Or breaking out the kool-aid plus.

You could look up some facts such as the stock performance of AMD, which outperforms Intel in any recent time period. Yahoo shows AMD outperfoming INTC in 5 day, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 year and 5 year time intervals.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AMD&t=5d&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=intc
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AMD&t=3m&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=intc
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AMD&t=6m&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=intc
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AMD&t=1y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=intc
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AMD&t=2y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=intc
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=AMD&t=5y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=intc

All Intel longs have is nostalgia:

and, hmm..., let's see... faith?

First, AMD was profitable last time I looked (Q4/03)

Second, AMD previously had 9 quarters of losses, which is bad enough but certainly not 13! Q2/01 was profitable, as was a string of quarters before that.

P.S.:

The silicon cost of 1 MB A64 is IMO roughly triple that
of an Athlon.

What fantasy world led you to this conclusion? There is some cost for SOI. On 130nm, the die is somewhat larger, but not on 90nm. (Just because Intel's 90nm is a failure does not mean the same will happen to AMD.)

Meanwhile, on Intel's cost, have you tried to figure out the yields & bin splits of Prescott? Don't seem to be too good, judging by the availability (or lack thereof). Consider that Intel's costs may be increasing as they convert to 90nm.
