ALLEN PARK, Michigan – Over 1,000 revelers celebrated at the newly launched Detroit International Auto Salon’s (DIAS) “2008 Lunar New Year at DIAS” event with host, Componus, Inc. Auto industry, local government, and community dignitaries feasted on a whole host of traditional Asian delicacies in the newly renovated 380,000 sqft facility for showcasing internationally-produced automotive, transportation, and related components. Chief Executive of Wayne County, Mr. Robert Ficano, was on hand to commemorate the event. “I thank DIAS for such a super gathering that provides a spark for others to see that Detroit wants international business, and we are on the move again,” said Ficano, “We look forward to more opportunities, growth, and interaction in the Wayne County communities, with the involvement of the local Chinese communities.

The feast for the “Year of the Rat” celebration centered around roasted suckling pigs, roasted ducks, and a myriad of traditional new year dishes, such as dumplings, “Longevity vegetable” symbolizing good luck and long life, and “Tang-Yuan” promoting happy family reunion and good prosperity for the new year. Mr. Ming-An Tan, the chairman of Detroit Chinese Business Association was extremely pleased with the attendance, “ We have nearly 700 professionals of Asian and Chinese descent from industry, government, the community at large, and different ethnic organizations that have come together to start building the relationships needed to rekindle international business and the auto industry.”

Newly elected mayor of Allen Park, Gary Burtka stayed into the wee hours of the festivities, and honored the event by drawing the grand prize, a pair of airlines tickets to Asia, for a lucky attendee during the night’s raffle. “I share with Allen Park in the excitement of having DIAS located in Allen Park, and welcome DIAS to help grow our business in the Allen Park community,”said Mayor Burtka. Raffle prizes included tickets to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, pictures from the renowned photographer Hewen Slak, wine, and other prizes.

While the majority was entertained with song, and amateur shows, other guests took advantage of touring the facility housing over 200 hundred year-round showcases, booths and displays of automotive and related products and services. “We have incredible displays here from highly qualified Asian suppliers,” commented DIAS President Michael Wesney, “this is proof that our business concept of showcasing international products here in the Automotive Capitol of the World is working. Parts ranging from wheels, chassis, power- train, drive-line, and other accessories are currently on display here. We expect this to expand quickly.”
