If AMD wanted to speak to the subject of 1Q guidance they would not have done it in Paris, in French and as a privileged to one reporter in an interview whose primary purpose was to talk about future marketing strategy. I believe Richards made an off-the-shelf reference to past guidance.
The recent positive references to flash also suggests that Richards might have been foolhardy had he attempted to give firm guidance two weeks before the end of the period. Incidentally, the flash news might give some analysts an excuse to upgrade AMD without relinquishing their theories about "continuing problems" with CPUs.
