I would say, some news will hit the wires around the time the MM's /brokers realize they have been giving away shares that don't really exist

Don't know if it is true or not, but I was once told that if most people have sell orders in, the brokerages cannot use your shares to cover with. I have all my shares for sale staggered starting at .3 and going up to .9
