#29760 RE: DARBES #29759

Note on long URLs -

Some of you may have experienced the frustration of truncated URLs. This note explains why it happens, and how to avoid it.

When you post a long URL, it is fully stored in the iHub database. Only the display is truncated, you can still click on the URL and get the correct page.

However, if you edit the post then the truncated URL is put into the edit window. When you hit the 'update' button, the original URL will be replaced by the truncated URL in the database. This results in a broken URL.

There are two ways to solve this problem:

1. When the truncated URL shows up in the edit window then replace it with the original, full URL.

or

2. Use http://tinyurl.com/ to create a pointer to the URL which will be stored on their web site. (I don't know how long they keep it.)

Happy posting!
