I particularly place value on your last point. For me, the enormous influence of organised groups in US governance at the expense of the people has been been the weeping sore of the US political system. If the internet removes the disintermediation, by means of information, blog opinion and new micro-funding models, then I suspect America can become America again.

So for me, rather than the generational aspect of the thing, what really interests me is the way the internet has restored that critical lost connection of American politics. Obama is a politician of the internet age. A kind of popular rock star. Cyberspace allowed the creation of an Obama. For good or for ill.

The incumbent generation (the 1960s group), with its structure based on control of the centre, has basically been engineered around.
