lady...

A rather foolish comment from one whom I am sure has read many times in our own day about the "four corners of the earth" and how the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. These are idioms, and not meant to be taken scientifically.

When you are through scoffing, you might read Job 26:7 speaking of the earth being suspended in space. A spherical earth is described in Job 26:10 (and Job is the oldest book in Scripture) and again in Isaiah 40:21-22, and I might note that those are the same authors you quote. The Job passage, and several in psalms and proverbs describe the circle of the earth, which is what we see as the horizon, and it also mentions the boundry found between darkness and light, suggesting the results of a round earth (day and night).

In a number of passages, Jesus refers to conditions at the moment He comes, and says that some will be sleeping in their beds but also says that some will be in the fields. That demands a round earth where some places experience daylight while other experience darkness at the same time.
