#1. What do you mean "Jav's products are non-opioid"?
Javelin has three products under development; Intranasal ketamine, Intranasal morphine, and Dyloject. Just because its administered by the nasal route does not mean its not an opioid.
#2. "Respiratory depression is usually seen with the use of a single, intravenous dose in an opioid-naive patient."
That statement is not true. It depends on the size of the dose, how much pain their experiencing, the weight, age, etc.
Morphine, fentanyl, and other opioids are administered by IV everyday in the post-op area without any significant respiratory depression. Morphine & other opioids are also administered on the floor post-op without problems. Complications occur if patients are not properly monitored while receiving pain meds.
YMI may have run into problems since they couldn't control the dose of fentanyl with the inhaler. They may need to change the study protocol or lower the dosage used in the study.
