Real Estate doldrums are upon us ... I don't see an absolute debacle yet, but I do wonder what depreciating home prices will do to the cost of agricultural land; it's been undervalued for many years and has suddenly surged in the last few years.
The move to use ethanol instead of oil (dead dinosaur juice), including that derived from corn and trees, will give some support to agricultural land. Unfortunately the holding costs to maintain a family farm keep going up as the equipment is more expensive, seed and fuel are on the rise, and taxes go up with the land values.
Depression? I doubt it.
Inflation? You bet!
