This is your only argument, afaik.
But he never writes that his father lives (or lived) exclusively in New York.
This family can have his main (living) residence in Florida and still have one or more appartements in New York, for instance.
If you take me for an example:
I work 12 months a year in Vienna, the capital and biggest city of Austria, living there in an appartement.
But my (official) main residence is somewhere else in Austria, in a place where my family has a (big) house of our own.
