jmhollen, at the risk of sticking my nose in where it's not wanted, I'd like to offer a comment:
One of the lessons that has stuck in my mind since childhood is, "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me!"
There is an exquisitely simple way to deal with folks who write hogwash about you ... IGNORE THEM!!!.
You may feel the need to defend yourself, but you should suppress it. If the messages you post have quality, your readers know your worth. More than that, they have the wit to recognize the shortcomings of your attacker.
In my opinion, the best thing you can do is to concentrate on the quality of your own posts. You'd be amazed at how quickly that puts attackers on the defensive.
