I'm with you on this one, Elmer. I think B3's are failing due to the same intrinsic behavior, but perhaps they have partially fixed it well enough to ship the part with a u-code patch that does not degrade performance. That would fit with other existing rumors, and it would be enough for the PR dept to proclaim the bug as "fixed".

They have no choice, really. Charlie's article suggests that AMD is not putting any more effort into 65nm Barcelona spins. B3 is the last one, take it or leave it, and since AMD's survival depends on it, they are putting on a good face.

At this point, they cross their fingers and hope that the 45nm "C-x stepping" turns out better. I'm sure they are "optimistic" and "very excited" about 45nm, but personally I don't see it happening until the tail end of the year, best case.
