I don't believe that was the case here. Lightly traded penny stocks are easily manipulated by the MM's.

DO NOT use stop loss limits on this type of stocks.

The MM's can see you’re your stops and will sacrifice shares to drop the ask, causing the pps to drop, to hit your stop and take the shares. After the shares are gone the pps goes back to normal.

I believe this is what happened. I have seen this happen before.
