Since I am not from the area I used a captain for Lake Anna the only time I fished there. My friends and I had a ball and caught many strippers.

OT: GP100357: Bullrider got it. Claytor Lake. Not a bad lake, We just hit it at a bad time. Oct., Windy and a cold front just moved in. I want to try it again. It's only about 2.5 - 3 hrs form here. Smith Mountain is known for stripers, but it's not bad for black bass either. It's the only place I was ever in a tournament and had 4 keepers within 30 minutes. Plus one of them was just 1.5 oz. short of being the 'big fish' winner. One day I will go down and try to tie into a couple of them stripers. I've read about Table Rock. Sounds nice. Hope you get to go. As for the New river, I fish it from the banks on occassion. I like large mouths better, so I don't do it often.
Pretty scenery mskes it worth the trouble even when then luck is bad. One spot I do like to fish is a spot just below where the New River and Gaulley River merge to form the Kanawha. A stretch of water about 1.5 miles long lies between Glenn Ferris and the first shoals. I've never had my new boat in there but I did get carried away fishing one ime in my old boat and had a tough time getting back upstream from near the shaols. It was all the old 40 hp could do to get me going the right direction. Travis is not bad, but I still like the old 'Outlaws' better. Waylon, Willie and the boys. Good luck ~ shao
