In Europe, joining the Euro has a lot of baggage that removes autonomy from the joinubg nation - no right to set taxes, interest rates on savings/borrowing, and a million other constraints that you just wouldn't believe. That's why Britain, Denmark and a few other European countries never joined the Euro.
The US is too proud of its currency to ever abandon it ... at least, as I say, withing my lifetime.
